Hello Crafty Endeavor friends! I am Melanie from the Crafty Cupboard. You can find me every weekday on my blog doing fun things like making a dollhouse from a dresser

Showing beginning quilters how to make a simple and cute baby quilt,

and making fun clothes for me and my kids. The husband as so far eluded my sewing machine.

Make sure you check out my blog for a fun giveaway! I love sharing my ideas and learning from other blogs. I am always looking for a new, fun blog to drool over. When the call went out for guest bloggers, I jumped on that bandwagon because I, for one, am a total fan of all that happens on this blog. Then, I realized what I volunteered to do and I had a minor panic attack because doing a guest post here means I kind of have to do something interesting. I decided to just keep it simple, and tasty!

I was busy punching circles for baby shower decorations and the thought struck me to do a simple cupcake topper for Memorial Day. Except for the minor fact that I wanted to put American Flag stickers on it and I didn't have any and it was 10:00 at night. Practice round!

I started with a white cake mix, because if any of you read my blog, you may have read that I just don't cook. Or, rather, can't. But box cake mixes?? Yeah, baby! I chose festive patriotic cupcake liners to round out the whole Memorial Day theme.

After making the batter, I separated about 1/2 cup batter into one bag and added red food coloring, and another 1/2 cup batter to a separate bag and added blue food coloring. See where I am going with this?

After filling the cupcake liners 1/3 full with the white batter,I cut a tiny hole in the corner of the bags and started "piping" the colored batter into partially filled cupcake cups. I just jammed the bag into the white batter and started squeezing. The colored batter filled the center of the cupcakes.

With a toothpick, I made some Fireworks! I just stuck the toothpick in the center and pulled the colored batter out in a firework-y way.

When the were done cooking, they still had the whole color-burst effect!

Using your favorite frosting recipe (or can frosting if you don't want to turn on your mixer and wake your kids) and some coordinating sprinkles, top with a fun cupcake topper. This is where your creative imaginations kick in and see the American Flag and shiny streamers hanging from the cupcake topper. See? Ah...

And don't forget to notice the explosion of color on the inside of your cupcake! A fun surprise for any Memorial Day celebration.

Sometimes all it takes is a small change to a regular 'ol dessert to make it fit the occasion. Try it out, and enjoy the calories!!!
Melanie!! You really didn't have to be nervous - you did an awesome job!
And your cupcakes looks so yummy! Just one more thing to add to my to do list!!

Yes it was nice to have a different face on my blog today :) It was fun, but I realized I forgot to mention I used a paper punch and a toothpick to make the cupcake inserts. That is what late-night crafting does to a person!
